Stainless Steel Cabinet Hardware

Stainless steel cabinet hardware is a perfect fit for your contemporary or retro kitchen.

WHAT IS STAINLESS STEEL?

Stainless steel is iron with a chromium (chrome) alloy.  Chromium was discovered in the late 1700's, but stainless steel didn't become part of our hardware and cutlery until the 1920's.  Chromium isn't the only alloy that can be added to iron.  Nickel is often added too.

THE EXPENSE OF STAINLESS STEEL CABINET HARDWARE

Real stainless steel is expensive.  If you are on a budget, check out nickel, chrome, or pewter handles instead.

IMPORTANT:  If you opt for nickel or chrome instead of real stainless steel, make sure the handle or knob you buy has a guaranteed finish.  Amerock company calls their guaranteed finish a Guardian Finish.  Whatever company you buy from, be sure there is some type of finish guarantee.  If not, your chrome won't look so good a year or two from now. 

WHAT MAKES STAINLESS STEEL SO DESIRABLE PEOPLE PAY A PREMIUM FOR IT?

  • Stainless steel cabinet hardware is resistant to corrosion.
  • It's resistant to stains.
  • It's beautiful, and holds up well.
  • It's easy to clean.
  • It's 100% recyclable, which is great for the "green" conscious.  Most products that are stainless steel have a 60% recycled material content.
  • Stainless steel is timeless.

WHAT STYLE OF CABINETRY "GOES WITH" STAINLESS STEEL?

  • Contemporary kitchens.
  • Retro kitchens.
  • Dark cabinetry, especially the deep reddish-stained or cherry cabinets.
  • Stainless steel cabinet hardware looks good on white cabinets.

The color of cabinets really doesn't matter as much as the look you are trying to achieve.

The only cabinet style that doesn't fit well with stainless steel is a country look.  For all other looks, it can fit in quite well as a timeless beauty.
