Kitchen Storage Idea
KITCHEN STORAGE IDEAS
De-cluttering your kitchen isn't the only kitchen storage idea. There
are more things you can do. It will depend on your time and money,
but, it really doesn't have to cost you a fortune to implement one or another
kitchen storage idea.
KITCHEN STORAGE IDEA #1 - ADD AN ISLAND TO YOUR
KITCHEN
This is a really great storage option, and may let you have a nice
eating area or buffet as well.
If you already have a breakfast nook, or small kitchen table in your kitchen,
think about replacing it with an island you can eat at. You'll gain
storage and it can be used as a buffet area. There really isn't a down
side (other than some initial cost).
If you have a formal
dining room, this is really a good idea. You can still have a large table
for those special dinners in your dining room, but don't have to mess up the
dining room for everyday meals. It will make life a little more quick and
easy, not to mention the added storage you'd get.
You don't have to match existing woodwork either. Your island could be
a nice complement or contrast to the rest of your kitchen.
If you have white kitchen cabinets, think about adding a dark cherry
stained island (or vice versa).
Islands are really great places to have baking stations, garbage rollouts,
bread boards, drawer stacks, or any number of combinations that you may need to
improve your kitchen storage.
KITCHEN STORAGE IDEA #2 - DON'T HAVE ROOM FOR A
PERMANENT ISLAND? WHAT ABOUT A ROLLING ONE?
Rolling carts or rolling islands are great if you don't have permanent space
for an island. They come in several different layouts, different
colors and a variety of woods and metals.
Many are often wine racks or bread boards as well.
They can be quite stylish or have a simple country feel and look. It
might be just what you need to solve any kitchen storage problems you might have
(plus look pretty, that's always a plus:-)
KITCHEN STORAGE IDEA #3 - ADD ROLLOUTS OR BASKETS
There are many types of wire, wicker, metal, or plastic baskets you can purchase to fill several
different types of needs when it comes to a kitchen storage ideas. Here
are 7 kitchen storage ideas on how to use them:
- Find baskets that mount to either a base rollout or
pantry rollout rack.
- Get a base cabinet organizer that you can
pullout, like those designed to fit narrow "filler" cabinets that don't have a top drawer.
These are often used as spice racks or soup holders. Some are even towel
holders.
- There are baskets that can be mounted to doors
for use as spice racks or medicine holders. These are good to mount on
an upper cabinet door.
- Get an under sink storage caddy that rollouts out.
Really useful for cleaning supplies.
- There are several vegetable bin type assemblies,
wire and actual rattan baskets. These will rollout to hold your onions, potatoes, and
the like.
- There are tray dividers that rollout for base or
upper cabinets.
- You can install drawer type rollouts yourself as well.
Any base cabinet can be converted to include a rollout or two. Be aware of where your hinges are on your door. Some rollouts
may interfere with the hinges, so be sure to place your rollouts where they
won't interfere with the hinges.
KITCHEN STORAGE IDEA #4 - IDEAS FOR COOKBOOK
ORGANIZATION
- If you want to show off your cookbook collection,
take a door off an upper cabinet, line with pretty paper if you'd like, and
set your cookbooks there. It's easy access and looks nice.
- If you aren't worried about grease, you might be
able to use the cabinet above your stove for cookbooks. It can be open
as well.
- Incorporate a bookcase-type cabinet at the end of
your island and place your cookbooks (or knick-knacks) there. A cabinet
like this is also a nice place to put woven vegetable and fruit bins. It
looks nice and serves a purpose.
- If you want your cookbooks out of the way and have a deep
drawer, stack them, label side up, in the drawer for easy viewing and pullout
access.
